Kasematti III
Hello everyone! I am Walter Götsch, a Finnish/German conceptual visual artist who is based in Helsinki and has a studio on the Harakka-island. I combine anthropology, field research, sculpture, land art, and myth-based narratives. I am working within the artistic practice I have developed, Mythographic Geospatial Art.
I create M.A.R.P.S. (Mobile Art, Research and Production System) works in natural settings, documenting them with GPS coordinates and analog photography. My practice also includes Zone Probing (ZP), an artistic research method rooted in psychogeography, searching for human made and natural anomalies, and Additive Enchantment (Æ), a sculptural approach in which discarded materials are given new meaning. Drawing inspiration from Land Art, Situationist thought, and the environments I traverse, I create works that engage in a dialogue with history, materials, and environment.
For Galleria Lennätin I present different sculptures, paintings, stories, and photos in the space (pics below). We live in an era of distractions, my works are about attentiveness. The artworks are build from the “nature”, they redirect attention aways from itself. When you are attentive to your surroundings, you also have something like hope. The works are about de-centering the individual, and show curiosity and exploration to a world already full of stories, myths, and legends.
