Allekirjoitin elokuussa 2017 sopimuksen, joka raukeaa 31.5.2026. Se mikä joskus oli Ruotsin, Venäjän ja Suomen armeijan oli minulla kaupungilta lainassa. Oli oikeus avata ovi ja sulkea se.

Valkoposkihanhet palaavat joka kevät ja asettavat näkymättömät seinät. Eivät pyydä lupaa, ottavat haltuun, taistelevat. Ainoa allekirjoitus on silloin rajaa vasten nojaava keho, sijaitseminen.

Sopimukseni rauettua oikeus oveen lakkaa mutta voin yhä sijaita kallioilla ja vesirajassa, asettaa raajani asioita vasten, hengittää sisään ja ottaa vastaan viileyden, kosteuden ja lämmön.

500 vuotta sitten tämä saari ei ehkä kuulunut kenellekään.

Kastehelmi Korpijaakko (s. 1984, Lohja) on Helsingissä asuva valokuvataiteilija. Viimeiset 9 vuotta hän on työskennellyt Harakan taiteilijatalossa. Korpijaakko valmistui taiteen maisteriksi Aalto-yliopiston valokuvataiteen koulutusohjelmasta vuonna 2018. Hänen teoksiaan on ollut esillä yksityisnäyttelyissä muun muassa Galleria Hippolytessa (2025) ja Porin taidemuseon Poriginal galleriassa (2025) sekä ryhmänäyttelyssä Mäntän kuvataideviikoilla kesällä 2025. Vuoden 2025 aikana Korpijaakko on työskennellyt Cité international des arts residenssissä Ranskassa, Väinö Tannerin säätiön residenssissä Italiassa sekä Suomen New Yorkin kulttuuri-instituutin Sharing Grounds -projektissa. Korpijaakon työskentelyä tukee tällä hetkellä Koneen säätiö.

Lauantaina 30.5. klo 14 performanssi ”5.6.1995” tapahtuu Harakan Lintupiilossa saaren pohjoisrannalla. Performanssin aikana puhdistetaan Harakan luonnonsuojelualueiden perustamisen muistolaatta ja luetaan ääneen rituaaliin liittyvä teksti. Vuodesta 2019 toistunut performanssi toteutuu saarella
viimeisen kerran.

Näyttely on avoinna päivittäin klo 12-17.

 

Saapuminen saareen:

Yhteysvene lähtee Kaivopuiston laiturista, Café Ursulan vierestä tasalta ja puolelta (klo 14.30 ei vuoroa).
Aikuisen meno-paluu 9 €. Lapset ja eläkeläiset 6 €.
Veneessä käy vain MobilePay tai korttimaksu.
Nosta laiturin valkoinen viitta ylös, jotta vene tietää tulla hakemaan.

In August 2017, I signed an agreement that expires on May 31, 2026. What once belonged to Sweden, Russia and the Finnish army was on loan to me from the City. I had the right to open the door and close it.

The barnacle geese return every spring and erect invisible walls. They ask for no permission, they just take possession, they fight. The only signature, then, is a body leaning against the border, a position.

Once my contract expires, my right to the door ceases, but I can still position myself on the cliffs and by the water’s edge, place my limbs against things, breathe in and receive the coolness, the moisture, and the warmth.

500 years ago, this island may have belonged to no one.

Kastehelmi Korpijaakko (b. 1984, Lohja) is a photographic artist based in Helsinki. For the past 9 years she has worked at the Harakka Artists› House. She graduated with a Master of Arts degree from the Photography programme at Aalto University in 2018. Korpijaakko’s works have been exhibited in solo shows at Gallery Hippolyte (2025) and Pori Art Museum Poriginal Gallery (2025), as well as in group exhibition at the Mänttä Art Festival in summer 2025. During 2025, Korpijaakko has participated in residencies at the Cité Internationale des Arts in France, the Väinö Tanner Foundation residency in Italy, and the Sharing Grounds project at the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York. Korpijaakko›s work is currently supported by Kone foundation.

Saturday, May 30, at 2:00 p.m. the performance ”5.6.1995”  will take place at Harakka’s Bird watching hut on the island’s northern shore. During the performance, the commemorative plaque marking the establishment of the Harakka Nature Reserves will be cleaned and a text read out loud. This performance, which has been held annually since 2019, will take place on the island for the last time.

The exhibition is open daily 12-17.

 

Arriving on the island:

The ferry departs from the Kaivopuisto pier, next to Café Ursula, every half an hour (no service at 2:30 p.m.).
Round-trip fare for adults: €9. Children and seniors: €6.
Only MobilePay or card payments are accepted on the boat.
Lift the white flag at the pier so the boat knows to come pick you up.
